Price: #14.95 Rating: ***** Repton Infinity from Superior Software is an excellent game. When the game box is opened there are 3 disks. The disks are reversible floppy disks. Disk 1 is the BBC model B version, one side 40 track the other side 80 track. The second disk is the 40 track versions of the data files. One side is the game files and on the other side are the editor characters, screen maps, Reptol language definitions, Reptol language object code, and sprite files. (more about all these later.) And the third and final disk is the enhanced Master series version (40/80 track) on one side and on the other side is the 80 track versions of the data files. The games which come with Repton Infinity are: Repton 3-Take 2 Repton 4 Robbo Trakker Repton 3-Take 2 is similar to Repton 3 but there is no time limit. Repton 4 is the successor to Repton 3. Robbo is a game where you have to collect flashing orbs to proceed to the next level. Trakker is a colourful game where you have the latest thing in buldozers to kill hideous jaggars and other hideous things! There are 2 sets of games. Each game is labelled A or B. All of these are the game files. The rest of the programs are the editors. The first editor is Film strip The sprite editor. The sprite editor is similar to the one found in Repton 3 For those who don't know what the Repton 3 sprite editor looks like, here is a brief overview. When the program is loaded you are presented with a screen which has 3 main grids. These are the sprite design grid, editor character grid, and the map character grid. In a box below are the characters. There are 4 colours available at any one time. The second editor is called Landscape- The screen designer. This is also similar to the one found in Repton 3. The third and final editor is called Blue Print- The game creator. This is the major new addition to the 'Repton Family' this program enables you to control how the characters act in the actual game. This is done by using a simple programming language called REPTOL. Reptol is simple to use. Here is an example: NAME sword DEFINE TYPE Solid Hpush Vpush One The meanings of these word are: Solid - Solid to Repton Hpush - Can be pushed horizontally Vpush - Can be pushed vertically One - Slowest speed - Same as Repton's speed. The last program is called File Link - the linker. There are 2 versions of this program. The first is the BBC/ Electron version. The second is the BBC Master version. Version 1 is quite simple. You have to enter a game title, The 3 game definition filenames, Finished game file name, and end game messages. Then press ctrl-l and the files will be linked. Version 2 has a slight difference in the linker on the BBC Master version. I think that Repton Infinity is one of the best games available for the Beeb. brilliant Graphics and versatility make this a good game. Sam Jackson (K7K) Press Space
