My problem is when I use !65Host it can't access the Hard Drive.I rang Castle Technology's Technical Helpline and they couldn't help. The man on the phone said "No it probably won't work from the Beeb emulator, without some rewriting of !65Host itself, probably. If its any consolation, you're the only person who's ever asked !!" Anyhow I didn't think that was much consolation.Any experts out there ? Perhaps someone somewhere has written a utility for such a purpose ? Also how about phoning the Archimedes BBS in Yeovil called BransYeo. Telephone . Its got it's own dedicated phone line. This is a local call to a lot of Somerset and parts of Dorset. So weekends if local you can be online for an hour for only 60p plus VAT. Less if you make it a friends and family number. Also I've heard a rumour that BT may be considering offering free local calls later in the year. Does anyone have any further details? Presumably it will be weekend or 12am to 8am or something if they do. Perhaps you'll have to pay a single quarterly charge like ten pounds. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To: 999 (all members) From: 3WU (Fred Price) Subject: HELLLP Modems As stated HELP now can anyone advise me how to get in touch with the likes of Computerserve so i can get a number of some sort that will get me into this astral world of Modems as yet no one has gave me any hope of useing my Modem so how about it let me into this secret world so i can sample and judge for myself what is in this Cyberspace of activity or is it a dark place where no one treads alone. Can anyone offer any tips ? I use a Hewlett Packard HPIIP and the main problem is that I need to push FORM FEED to get the paper out if I send a page to the printer. I normally use VIEW on the Master but I find it easier to port files to the PC for editing and printing ! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To: 999 (all members) From: D7X (Martin Hodgson) Subject: Solidisc RAM/ROM My BEEB has for many years contained the Solidisc TwoMeg 128K board. This comes with a Manager ROM image which enables the use of Shadow screen memory. This all works perfectly, provided you use the Solidisc DFS ROM and Manager. If you try to use the Acorn DFS (necessary if you want to run any protected disc from e.g. Superior Software), there are problems. Most protected discs require a SHIFT/BREAK boot up. This causes the computer to lock up solid.Only a CTRL/BREAK will clear it. Hence, I can use Solidisc Manager + DFS, or I can use Acorn DFS but remove the Manager and lose Shadow memory use. The problem obviously lies with the Manager ROM image. Does anybody have a solution which prevents it interfering with the DFS ? It would be simple enough to edit the Manager code and save the modified ROM image, if only one knew which bit is causing the trouble. I assume the whole thing is a deep and dark plot to force people to use Solidisc's own DFS ! Personally I like the Solidisc products, but Superior Software in particular obviously did not. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To: 999 (all members) From: E2K (J.W.Smith) Subject: COMMUNICATION & NETWORKS COMMUNICATION & NETWORKS I could bet that there are dozens of poeple out there who don't know the first thing about communication or about networks !
