RAVENWOOD MANOR - COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH SOLUTION

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
-----------------
RAVENWOOD.txt is a BBC BASIC listing intended for a BBC Micro
Model B in MODE 7 (40 columns, teletext).

The file uses ONLY ASCII 13 (carriage return) as its line
terminator, exactly as if the program had been written with:

    *SPOOL RAVENWD
    LIST
    *SPOOL

To load the game on a real BBC (or an emulator such as B-em,
BeebEm or JSBeeb):

    NEW
    *EXEC RAVENWOOD (paste-in via *EXEC)
    RUN

Alternatively, in an emulator you can paste the text directly
into BASIC and then type RUN.

The game world contains 25 rooms. Six items are essential to
completing the adventure; four more are optional flavour /
bonus items.

CANDLE stub of wax candle Wine Cellar

STAFF worn wooden staff Tower Chamber (optional)
GEM bright ruby gem Bottom of Well (optional)

THE PUZZLES
-----------
1. The Manor Porch door is locked. Find the rusty key in
    the garden. UNLOCK DOOR.

2. The Dark Cellar is pitch black. Take the CANDLE (Wine
Cellar) and MATCHES (Dining Hall), then LIGHT CANDLE.

3. A stone slab seals the crypt. Prise it aside with the
CROWBAR (USE CROWBAR or OPEN CRYPT).

4. A pale spectre guards the Amulet in the Inner Tomb.
Only silver can harm it. KILL GHOST once you carry the
silver DAGGER (found in the Dusty Attic).

5. The AMULET must be carried back to the Iron Gate to
    finish the game.

OPTIONAL PUZZLES
----------------
6. A hidden passage links the Nursery to the tower.
READ BOOK in the Library reveals it. You may then go
U (up) from the Nursery to reach the Tower Chamber (and
    the wooden STAFF).

7. The well in the Garden is very deep. Carry the ROPE
from the Master Bedroom. Then D (down) from the Garden
reaches the Bottom of the Well and the ruby GEM.

DESIGN NOTES (for the curious)
------------------------------
* Written for BBC BASIC I as shipped on the Model B.
* All variables are lower-case, so none of them can be
confused with a BBC BASIC keyword by the interpreter.
* No RETURN parameter is used in any PROC/FN definition -
every argument is passed by value only.
* All screen output is word-wrapped by PROCprint so no
line ever overflows the 40-column MODE 7 screen.
* The file was saved with pure CR (ASCII 13) line endings,
exactly as *SPOOL / *EXEC expects.

Happy hunting at Ravenwood!
